Who We Are

Who Should Be Baptized

Baptism is an opportunity for us to identify ourselves publicly with Christ. As we choose to follow Christ by accepting what Jesus did on the cross for our sins, we understand it is only by the grace and love of Christ that we are set free. Ephesians 2:8-9 says that, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is a gift from God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Salvation occurs only when we place our faith and trust in Christ as the sufficient payment for our sin.

When we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, baptism is the next step for us on our journey with God. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells his followers to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit…” We now have the opportunity to tell our “God Story” to encourage and challenge the people around us.

You Have Been Baptized Before

You may have been baptized before as an infant or as an adult through one of the following ways:

Infant Baptism – Some churches believe in infant baptism. At Connect we express our desire for our children to live lives for Christ through parent/child dedications. This is a time for us to commit to pray for our children as they grow and to raise them to know Christ. We believe that the child will have the opportunity to choose to follow Christ later in life.

Sprinkling/Pouring – The practice of sprinkling or pouring water as baptism came hundreds of years after Christ when people were not well enough to be immersed in water. Later, some denominations adopted it as their form of baptism.

Immersion – The original Greek word “Baptizo” that is used in the New Testament means to dip, immerse, submerge. At Connect we baptize by immersion because of the example Jesus and his disciples set in scripture (Acts 8:26-40 & Matthew 3:13-17).

If you have been baptized before but it wasn’t after you put your faith and trust in Christ and by immersion, we would simply ask you to prayerfully consider being baptized at Connect by immersion.

What Does Baptism Represent

Baptism is not an action necessary for our salvation. It is an outward expression of what God is doing in us and through us on our journey with Him. Baptism is the next step after we have put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

The actual action of being baptized represents that we are dead to our old life (going under the water) and have been symbolically washed clean as we walk in our new life with God (rising out of the water). The Apostle Paul talks about baptism in Romans 6:4, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Baptisms at Connect

We love being a part of you taking your next step with God. The church is encouraged by your God Story and celebrates with you. We want you to invite your friends and family to join the celebration as you are baptized. A host will introduce you and read your God Story of how you came to follow Christ as we celebrate your commitment through baptism.
